43 people from 14 companies were able to experience a Cambridge Air Solutions morning meeting at their new Wentzville facility, learning more about their culture and how they maintain high expectations through defining behaviors. Their sheet metal experts shared how they develop craftsmen through lean tools and training. The leaders at Cambridge Wentzville showed us their approach to leader standard work and visual job instructions which has helped them improve, increasing productivity and quality, while engaging the employees to enrich the lives of others.
The AME Back to Basics Lean Summit was held virtually over four Wednesdays in March, offering a flexible format for teams to join 1½-hour learning sessions each week.

During our recent learning session, attendees gained practical insights from two engaging practitioner-led presentations. Seth’s 5S Training with Legos demonstrated the power of visual organization and standardization, while Madonna’s Introduction to A3s provided a structured approach to problem-solving. This session offered a glimpse into the interactive workshops planned for the 2025 AME International Conference, reinforcing the value of hands-on learning in driving continuous improvement.
The St. Louis Zoo hosted a tour to showcase their Operational Excellence Journey as a workforce and organization. The tour focused on some of the behind-the-scenes operations including facilities management, technology and procurement, distribution, and animal nutrition. Employees are empowered through decentralized departments with the mission of conservation and animal wellness always at the forefront. They manage to retain operational excellence while navigating the unique challenges of caring and feeding over 20,000 animals and engaging over 3 million visitors per year.
The passion and pride among the employees made this tour exceptional and inspiring. Their desire for feedback, ideas and collaboration to continuously improve is exactly what AME is all about.
BCI Packaging hosted an inspirational tour of their manufacturing and packaging facility in St. Peters where employees love to come to work each day. From a people centric leadership perspective, every leader within BCI knows the skills and development goals of every employee on the floor. Their skills center provides job-specific training that leads to competitive integrated careers with their employment partners.

The employees at True Manufacturing’s Bowling Green facility provided an insightful tour with multiple stations where they shared where they were on their journey. We learned about their history and culture, with many examples of opportunities for employees who developed and grew as the company grew. Stations included Continuous Improvement / Standard Work, Quality, Technology Advances & Efficiencies, Ergonomics, Kanban, Employee Recognition, and 2-second lean.
Tom LaMantia, President and CEO of Clemco Industries, shared his journey over the years in business transformation. He highlighted the transformation with his team at Clemco Industries.
PLM Companies, relatively new to the lean journey, share many of the improvements they had made since their first tour in 2023. Highlights include improvements in employee safety and ergonomics to reduce the strain on their employees, the addition of automation to improve safety and improve efficiencies, and Human Resources initiatives to improve onboarding, retention, and just letting employees know that “PLM Cares”.
PLM has done a great job of including employees who do not speak English, which has turned a challenge into an opportunity to strengthen their workforce. Hungry to continue to improve, the PLM team shows their humility by requesting more suggestions for improvement.
Seyer Industries highlights the formula for performing Accelerated Improvement Workshops(AIWs), lean kaizen events, and other lean principles throughout their facility.
Participants learn how Seyer has been leveraging employee genius over the 25 years of their lean journey. Every time a smart use of lean principles and tools was highlighted, it was credited to the employees' ideas. The cleanliness of the facility with an abundance of visual controls provide confidence to their customers and prospects that Seyer is a well-run organization.

JHF showcases their efficient use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 for CRM operations and systematic problem-solving methods like the "5 Whys" and A3 thinking. Their strategic approach to continuous improvement, with 6-12 month project timelines, is particularly impressive, demonstrating their commitment to achieving lasting improvements.

Commercial Electronics (CE) has been a pioneer with our tours. When COVID-19 halted in-person tours in 2020, CE led our first virtual tour, gaining international recognition, and later, in May 2022, they led our second hybrid tour as restrictions eased. The employees of CE have designed and executed a tour program independently of management, displaying the principles of People Centric Leadership.
The Commercial Electronics culture has strengthened both the employees and their business, exceeding the expectations of their customers who rely on them. Cambridge takes you through what has been successful practices for them on their lean journey. They will provide an overview exploring lean principals such as Kata, Scrum, 2-Bin Kanban, Lean Workstations (designed by the employees), cost savings initiatives company wide as well as their learnings from the EOS management system. Participants will have access to the employees that have helped design, implement and work with these systems every day.
